Ball Python UTH and Basking light???
I've had my ball for 3 weeks now and I must say that he has a pretty sweet setup. If I was him, I'd be lovin it. My question is with the heating though. He's in a 40gal tank(36" X 18") and I've got the UTH on the far left side. I also bought a ZooMed basking Spot Lamp (75w) and have it on the left side. My question is where should I shine the lamp because it's a spot lamp so it will focus more of its heat/light into one central area. I've already got one of his hides sitting on top of the UTH. Should I shine the basking lamp at that same hide box? Or should I shine it like in hot sided corner that the UTH doesnt quite reach? I just don't want to overheat this little dude. HELP if you can. Thanks!
I think you should shine the light where the UTH is, going on the basic knowledge that you always want to keep one side hotter than the other. Then place a Water Bowl on the cool side since ball pythons love to soak. Or put one on both sides so the could soak on both sides depending om his body temperature. But anyway, I would definitely shine it over the same hide box.
