Ball python cage setup?
Okay so i got a ball python and a zilla delux snake kit. The kit came with a 20 long Glass Terrarium, sliding lockable cover screen, two 8.5" reflector dome light fixtures, 75W day blue light bulb, 50W Night black Heat Bulb, water dish, humidity and temperature gage, humidifying spray, bedding which we didn't use we used a mat thing that we cut to size, and a hide. I am having trouble keeping the humidity up to where it needs to be and the temp high enough. Any tips for me would help. oh and i was thinking about keeping a humidifier beside the cage if that would help with anything.
You'll need to readjust the lighting and/or add a Heating Pad to increase the temperature of the tank. Raising the wattage of the lights will increase the heat, while a heating pad will provide the recommended "belly heat" to aid in proper digestion. Remember, you want to provide a temperature gradient - so make sure only one side of the tank is heated and allow the temperature to drop on the other side of the tank.
Ball pythons are nocturnal, so having a daylight heating lamp is pretty redundant. I just have the nocturnal black night Heat Lamp on my ball pythons round the clock, and the ambient light in my room provides the photoperiod that the snakes need.
If you want to keep the humidity up, you can spray the cage once or twice a day. If you have decorations in the cage (things made of wood in particular), they will retain the water and release them slowly to raise the ambient humidity. Providing a large water dish will also help raise the humidity in the cage. If you still think the cage isn't reaching the best humidity, don't fret. Just make sure you soak the snake in a lukewarm tub once a week to promote proper shedding and digestion.
