I am wondering if it's possible that my snake Will die by suffocation under his Water Bowl?
I just bought a Lavender King Snake and he worries me because he continues to get under his terrarium carpet and sand and go underneath his water bowl. I'm afraid he will suffocate and die under there i keep trying to block it off so he can't get under the carpet but he always finds a way. Any suggestions?
Snakes and lizards have an interesting adaptation in their use of oxygen... they don't breathe the way mammals do... and their hearts don't beat nearly as fast either if they don't have to. Your snake knows what it's doing. If you want to prevent him from hiding under things you should put in a small Reptile Shelter (could consist of a shoe box turned upside down with a small hole cutout for access). Snakes generally like dark places to rest and hide when they're between meals. Just make sure it has access to plenty of light and that your terrarium is the right temperature and humidity.
