good reptile substrate?
I keep getting little bugs and stuff in my anole's current substrate (repti bark) and so i was wondering what some good reptile substrates are that don't accumulate bugs so easily and stay clean better. thnx
the bugs aren't from the soil being to wet because it isn't wet at all or even damp,and i've had knats before and these aren't knats these are mites and centipedes
If you are getting gnats in you substrate it is typically from it not being clean or dry enough . I know misting is a must for those little guys but anything more than slightly damp is a bacteria breeding heaven. The damp also promotes mold . I would completely clean their cage and start fresh. Make sure to use either a bleach solution (1 tablespoon bleach to 1 qt water) or a vinegar solution (1/2 &1/2) to clean all rocks surfaces etc. Remember only the surface needs to be wetened when misting and try to keep water accumulation to a minimum.
