Reptile Thermostat question?
I'm wanting to set up a few ball python breeding racks with Heat Tape on the back instead of belly heat and I was curious if anyone has had luck with this Thermostat:

I plan on getting the Helix Thermostats once I sell a few babies, but, as a student, I don't have a lot of money right now and am looking for a reliable thermostat that is no more then $50.
First off, unless your room is heated, I think you'll find having the heat tape under the tubs to be better at keeping them the proper temps than having it down the back of the rack.
Second, while I know many people that use the thermostat you mention, I'd suggest spending a bit more and getting a Ranco or Johnson controls thermostat if you can't afford the $100 for a proportional Helix or Herpstat. The Ranco/Johnson controls thermostats are analog, so they will turn the power off and on instead of controlling the amount of current, however they are built for industrial use and I feel they will give you a much better useable life than one of the cheaper thermostats.
I learned years ago that when it comes to electronics you really do get what you pay for. I've slowly been converting all of my equipment to good quality (along with good Reptile Cages) and have found that I'm much happier!
