Question about sphagnum moss in my BP's viv?
Since sphagnum moss is an organic substance, what are the chances of introducing parasites or mites into the viv? I have not used it yet but she had such a difficult last shed, I wanted to provide this for her. I purchased her at a Reptile Convention in September and she came with mites. It was a real ordeal and I do NOT wish to go through that again. Thanks!
Well, i purchased some of that moss, and in the next few days, my snakes got mites. i don't know if it is from the moss or just that i didn't quarantine the new snake, but still, it really helps.
If you want to use it, but don't want mites or ticks, you can probably get this amazing mite and parasite spray called Provent a mite. I used it and have not seen mites after. just spray it every 30 days and follow the directions. THe moss really helps in humidity and makes the tank look more natural.
