Blue Poison Dart frog Lighting?
Im getting 2 Blue poison dart frogs( Azerues) I want flourescent bulbs and a hood to go on top pf the tank. but i need to know what kind of flourescent bulbs i need. if u guys can tell me i will appreciate it alot. also do u think they will sell it at the reptile expo.
If you are keeping live plants in the tank other than pothos, (which you probably should) you will need a decent set of lights. Darts do not require UVA/UVB, but plants do better under certain wavelengths. Your best option will be replacing the bulbs in an incandescent fixture with 100 or 60 watt equivalent 6500K Compact Floursecents... they look like pig tails. Make sure you get the 6500K color though... usually labeled as "Daylight." Rather than pay $30 for a bulb at a reptile show, go to Lowes and get a four pack of Bright Effects Brand 6500K bulbs for $11.98 or Walmart and get GE Brand 6500K Daylight Bulbs for a little cheaper.
Just make sure your light is not making your enclosure too hot. Temps need to stay below 80 during the day (76 or so is ideal) and above 65 at night.
