What kind of heat lamp should i buy for my Bearded Dragon?
Right now im using a simple desk lamp to keep my baby warm, he doesnt seem to mind it. but i was serarching online for a reptile type of heating lamp, but there are so many kind. what is the best kind or brand i should buy? and do i also need a sun lamp? someone please help.
You need a lamp fixture like this: http://lllreptile.com/store/catalog/reptile-supplies/light-fixtures/-/zoo-med-regular-black-ceramic-clip-lamp/ or http://lllreptile.com/store/catalog/reptile-supplies/light-fixtures/-/10-ceramic-aluminum-fixture/ or a similar style for the basking bulb. Then just use a standard household bulb for the actual basking light. The important part is the dome shape and that it is ceramic, and make sure it can handle higher wattage bulbs just in case, so don't buy one that can only handle 60 watts or so because that may not always be enough.
Then, of course, you will need a UVB Bulb. It might be better to get something you can fit inside of the tank rather than a hood on top of the screen here, because the screen will block a lot of the UVB rays. Get a fluorescent style (long) one. The fluorescent UVB bulbs that are good for Beardies are the Reptisun 10.0, the Reptisun 5.0, and the Reptiglo 8.0. These usually come in one of a few sizes: 18 inch, 24 inch, 36 inch, or 48 inch. So don't get a fixture for the UVB that isn't one of those sizes, because you'll have a really hard time getting a decent light to fit into it if you do.
