How do you save a palm tree plant?

We have this palm tree type plant and most of the leaves have been dying over the past several months. There are only a few green leaves still surviving. I've tried watering it more, but that just turns the leaves yellow and then they die anyway. Is it hopeless or can I save it?
It is a houseplant that never gets direct sunlight. No pets in the house.

I'm assuming you are asking about a kentia palm, potted houseplant. it's the most common palm-like houseplant. Too much sunlight (kentias like medium, indirect light, so put them in a sunny room, but away from west and south windows). The yellow leaves were from over watering in your attempt to save it. Just put put it and leave it in the proper location, avoiding heat/A/C vents. Water fairly regularly, but let soil get slightly dry between waterings (pick up the pot...water it when it feels like it lost weight). Cut back to healthy parts of plant. If this doesn't work, throw the plant away, it's diseased. If you have a cat or dog, consider that pet urine kills slowly.
