Med Nocturnal

As the title suggests my cat who I picked up stray about 5 months ago gets too excited at night. Im a med school student and a few nights ive gone with no sleep because he keeps me up. I am a very light sleeper. He sleeps from about 8pm to 11. When I jump in bed he starts going crazy. Its like clockwork. Ive tried to keep him up. I annoy him and move him around but he just collapses lol. When he sleeps . . . he sleeps. Ive tried playing with him for 15 minutes or so and that doesn't work either. He has been neutered. Sometimes hes fine but many times he makes too much noise. I can't lock him in the laundry room because he makes so much noise meowing I don't want him to upset the neighbors (I live in apartment). I know cats are nocturnal and hes still a kitten so hopefully when hes older he will chill out more.

Anyway any tips from some cat lovers out there ??
