What do all thermometers have in common?

None of the five characteristics you have listed is common to all thermometers. Some contain mercury, but others have alcohol in them, and others have no fluid of any kind. Not all thermometers have a component that expands when heated, not all are digital, none that I know of has a temperature control, and a thermocouple is only a part of electronic thermometers.
I'd say the only thing that all thermometers have in common, is that they all measure temperature.
