Heater options for Young Painted Turtle?
Recently came to own a Painted turtle. I live in NE Ohio, and do not run an air conditioner for my apt, so the environment in the habitat is relatively warm. Water runs 72-84. Got cold last night, and will be fall eventually, so I need to look for options of a heater. Decorative, submersible...don't care. I would like it to have auto shutoff when desired temp is reached, don't want the little one to burn and don't want it to be easily broken. Any suggestions out there. Bought one tonight, but don't want to use it if not the right one.
I use an elite submerge. I like those kind because they have a protective cover. I find they are the best ones..They regulate well and shut off. Just remember to turn your heater off prior to cleaning the tank (Or unplug it) as I have wrecked one by not turning it off.
Temperature - A submersible heater should be used to keep the water at 75 - 86 degrees F. Protect both the thermometer and heater as turtles may bump, bite or move it. Although for a young one keeping it at 82-85 is best.
Sick Turtles water should be bumped up to 82-85
